Sein Name bedeutet La Rioja Jgerin vom See und weist auf die Fundschichten hin, die einstmals von Fluss und Seenlandschaften geprgt waren. Mit schtzungsweise fnf bis sechs Metern Lnge gehrte er zur Familie der Carcharodontosaurier und war damit ein frher Verwandter spterer Giganten wie Giganotosaurus. Kennzeichnend waren
