Fledgling nuthatches have the same headfirst down the tree instinct as adults, but they haven't quite mastered the execution. There's a wobbliness to them, a wide eyed determination that's impossible not to smile at. This painting catches that stage not yet graceful, but already brave. I worked freehand on archival cotton rag paper with Kissho
