mtg card when opponent loses life you gain life IF YOU LOSE BUT IF YOU LOSE YOU GAIN THEN YOU LOSE! Historic Arena Rules Text: loses, you, gain,

At the beginning of your end step, gain control of target nonland permanent controlled by a player who was dealt combat damage by three or more Pirates this turn.

Playing three spells per turn and/or milling yourself is easier in older formats that have access to cantrips like Careful Study and Mental Note

Commander decks built around landfall, token swarms, or Bird synergies all treat it as a premium engine piece

#8: The Filigree Sylex The Filigree Sylex is a pretty easy card to understand: its Ratchet Bomb, but legendary, and with the fringe upside that if you ever get to 10 counters you can Searing Wind something, which isnt likely, but is technically possible

The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth set gave this commander a nice boost with cards like Mirkwood Bats and Rise of the Witch-king
